OTT Platforms: The Government of India has banned 18 such OTT platforms, which used to make obscene and adult videos and publish them on the internet. India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has taken action against 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, 10 applications and 57 social media handles for violating the IT Act.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry of the Government of India has also ordered Google Play and Apple App Store to remove these apps from their respective platforms. Union Minister Anurag Thakur had earlier warned some OTT platforms, which used to upload vulgar and nude content on OTT platforms as creative media. Such content violates the Indian IT Act 2000, which has specific sections that protect the rights of women and children in the media and entertainment industry.
